Of course it’s not a perfect plan – it’s from the Labour Party manifesto after all. But LVT is one of these generally good .   The aim of every conqueror, from Alexander the Great to Napoleon and beyond, is to take control of the tax base: the land, the labour, the produce and the Author: Dominic Frisby.

After the second world war, reformers focused on building social-welfare programmes such as health-care and public-pension schemes. Land-value taxes rarely surfaced.   This continued after the war, when government was expected to provide homes and public services in ‘a land fit for heroes’. Government borrowing soared. In the US, the ‘New Deal’ in response to mass unemployment during the Great Depression of the s relied heavily on the Federal Government’s ability to borrow against future tax.

land exploitable, the Europeans depended on their labour and mainly on the African labourers to adapt land to their various needs. The intrusion of the British into Africa at the end of the nineteenth century had altered the traditional status of land and its relation to labour. Land in Africa was lost. A land/location value tax (LVT), also called a site valuation tax, split rate tax, or site-value rating, is an ad valorem levy on the unimproved value of property taxes, it disregards the value of buildings, personal property and other improvements to real estate.

A land value tax is generally favored by economists as (unlike other taxes) it does not cause economic inefficiency. A very interesting and well-written history of land and the development of capitalism. Labour I enjoyed the most from Land and Labour was its focus on a (modern) planned economy as a means of creating a more equitable and sustainable economy.

But the key difference is. How land acquires value – and who benefits. Reclaiming land value for public benefit – the case for a land value tax. How Harrisburg in the US was transformed through a land value tax. Valuing the land – how to measure land values. Differences between a land.

The annual produce of the land and labour of the society, the real wealth and revenue of the great body of the people, might be the same after such a tax as before. Ground rents, and the ordinary rent of land, are therefore, perhaps, the species of revenue which can.
